Miosotis Healthy Life Programme is intended to:

  • Treat obesity and overweight.

  • Promote healthy eating.

  • Determine and follow-up cardiovascular risk of subscribers (risk of diabetes, angina pectoris, myocardial infarction, cerebral thrombosis, death from cardiac causes, peripheral arterial disease, etc.).

The programme is accompanied by:

  • A motivation programme

  • A physical activity programme

  • Personalized teleconsultation

The programme also includes:

  • Personalized assessment of cardiovascular risk.

  • If necessary, to enhance the healthy food plan, the inclusion of food supplements and replacements.

Obesity and overweight

     - Worldwide obesity has nearly tripled since 1975.

In 2016, more than 1.9 billion adults, 18 years and older, were overweight. Of these over 650 million were obese. 

 

     - Most of the world's population live in countries where overweight and obesity kills more people than underweight. 39 million children under the age of 5 were overweight or obese in 2020.

     - Over 340 million children and adolescents aged 5-19 were overweight or obese in 2016.

     - Obesity is preventable.

Healthy diet

      - A healthy diet helps to protect against malnutrition as well as non-communicable diseases (diabetes, heart disease, stroke and cancer).

     - Unhealthy eating and lack of physical activity, are causing global health risks.

     - Healthy eating practices should start with breastfeeding that promotes healthy growth and reduces the risk of being overweight or obese.

     - Energy intake (calories) must be in balance with energy expenditure.

     - Total fat intake should not exceed 30% of total energy intake.​

     - Saturated fat intake should be less than 10% of total energy intake and trans fat intake should be less than 1% of total energy intake.

     - Limit sugar intake to less than 10% of total energy intake. A further reduction to less than 5% of total energy intake is suggested for additional health benefits.

     - Keeping salt intake below 5 g per day helps prevent hypertension and reduces the risk of heart disease and stroke in the adult population.

The Miosotis Healthy life programme is intended for any citizen, in particular for:

  • Obese or overweight.

  • Diabetics or who have diabetic family members.

  • Hypertensive (on medication or not).

  • With high cholesterol.

  • Who has suffered from Heart Attack (Myocardial Infarction) or Stroke (Cerebral Thrombosis).

  • Who has family members that have already suffered a heart attack

  • Smokers or who live with smokers.

  • Subscribers interested in:

    • Treating his obesity or reduce his weight.

    • Eat a healthy diet to improve control of a chronic disease (diabetes, high blood pressure, coronary or cerebrovascular disease, etc.) or to reduce the risk of it occurring.

Miosotis Healthy Life programme:

About our Clinical Director:

    

     - Doctor, graduated from Nova Medical School. Specialist in Internal Medicine, Consultant and Senior Graduate Hospital Assistant.
     - Member of the Portuguese Medical Association – 24577 and of the IMC (Irish Medical Council) – 415934 (Specialist registration).
     - 43 years of experience in clinical practice: 34 at ULSNA (Northeast Alentejo Local Health Unit), as a Specialist and Consultant in Internal Medicine; 4 as Consultant at AMAU - OLOL (Acute Medical Assessment Unit - Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Ireland).
     - He also has specific training in cardiovascular risk, obesity and nutrition (Postgraduate Degree in Mediterranean Diet - University of Barcelona; Postgraduate Degree in Clinical Nutrition - University of Navarra; Member of the Editorial Board of the scientific publication CPQ Nutrition.
     - He developed several management activities, including: member of the Board of Directors and the Executive Committee of the Faculty of Medicine of the Universidade Nova de Lisboa; President of the Student Association of that Faculty; Director of the Internal Medicine Department; President of the Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee; Coordinator of the Intensive Care Unit and units of Cardiology and Arterial Hypertension;
     - He is the author and co-author of several studies related to the organization and functioning of health units and knowledge representation, controlled natural language and biomedical ontologies.
     - He participated, as a researcher and co-investigator, in several national and international multicentre scientific trials and was the national coordinator of two of them.
     - He has presented more than 300 scientific papers, many of them at national and international meetings and he has organized more than 100 scientific events. He was the President of the 19th Portuguese Congress on Atherosclerosis.
     - He is the author and co-author of 26 scientific articles published in several national and international specialist journals.
